Every portrait session is a chance to freeze a moment in time. Senior year. A wedding day. A Tuesday afternoon in the backyard with your kids while the light goes gold. These moments don't announce themselves as important while they're happening — they just slip past. My job is to catch them before they do.

People ask me what makes a great portrait, and they usually expect an answer about cameras or lighting. The honest answer is comfort. The best image from any session is almost never the one we planned — it's the one that happens in between, when you forget I'm there. So the first thing I work on isn't my camera settings. It's you.

How a session with me actually goes

We talk before we ever shoot. I want to know who's in the photo, what it's for, and what you actually like — not what you think you're supposed to want. Then I pick light and location around that. The Texas Panhandle gives us some of the best natural light in the country, and I've spent years learning where it falls and when.

On the day, we start slow. The posed shots come first because they're the easy ones — and because once they're done, everybody relaxes, and that's when the real session starts. Kids start being kids. Couples start laughing at their own jokes. That's the gold.
